It has been some time since I have reviewed a travel-sized wand. But when Betty’s Toy Box offered the Mini Halo by Voodoo Toys, I decided to give it a try. I also wanted to compare it to his older toy sibling, the Original Halo Wand, to see if it has the same oomph that the larger wand has behind it. 

Mini Halo Stats

The Mini Halo from Voodoo Toys is a high-powered mini wand vibrator made of body-safe silicone and plastic. Its smaller compact size makes it perfect for travel, fitting snugly inside the included travel/storage pouch. This buzzy wand boasts 20 different frequencies between your normal low to high, of which there are eight speeds. And then at least 19 different patterns, all with a low to high setting on them. So really you are getting quite a few frequencies in one mini wand. The wand also has a memory chip that allows it to stay on the last used setting when turning it on and off. It has a semi-flexible neck that moves with your body during use.  

The mini wand is fully water-resistant so that you can take it into the shower or tub. Because this toy is made of silicone, you will want to use proper lube, meaning only water or oil-based lubrication. And it is rechargeable via the included USB cord.

A Word On the Company Name

I would like to take a moment and point something out about the company name here. 

While Voodoo Toys does have a statement that they mean no harm by their name and that they revere and honor the practice, I personally feel like this does more harm to the practice than good. Especially because they are taking the ‘pop-culture’ feel of it, which waters down and lessens people’s views on the real workings of the practice. 

I would love to see more of where they are donating to and what steps they are taking, who exactly they are working with, that has approved of this. Because there are no large heads of the practice itself, and there is no one person who can give a blanket ‘this is okay.’ I am certain there are some practitioners who very much would dislike this usage, and their voices matter. 

I do not stand behind this particular company’s choice of branding. Voodoo/Vodou is a closed practice, and with the rise of ‘Witchtok’, there is a lot for many to learn about cultural appropriation in the spiritual communities. 

So What Did I Think?

Names of companies aside, let’s talk about the Mini Halo. Right out of the box, I am a fan of how the silicone is textured. The raised diamond pattern makes it comfortable to hold while your hands are otherwise lubricated. This gives it just enough grip to not slip out of your hand during use. The raised buttons for Speed, Pattern, and Power are easy to tell the difference during use. They also light up when you single-click the power button to turn it on, so they are easy to see no matter what light you have or do not have on in your space. 

The power of the Mini Halo is strong from the start, though it is a strong buzzy feeling from the get-go. Whereas I found the Original Halo to be more of a soft rumble. So there is a large difference there if you are looking for a travel wand that is going to be rumbly like its larger counterpart. I found the settings to be so varied that I got lost a few times using it, and trying to get back to just the base vibration. You have to scroll all the way through the patterns to get back to base because when you turn it off, it stays on the last setting you used. 

Another issue I had with it was the flexibility of the neck. Yes, it is flexible, but it is still very stiff. You have to apply a lot of pressure in order to make it bend the way you want it to. And I actually found my wrist grew tired from how hard I had to hold it to make it happen.  

Overall Thoughts

In the end, the Mini Halo Wand by Voodoo Toys is not a toy that I would choose. It is too stiff, too busy, and too buzzy for my personal preferences. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t those who are out there who would love this wand because of those features. 

There are other travel wands like the Noje W4 which are more flexible and less buzzy that get the job done. You can get the Mini Halo Wand from Betty’s Toy Box in Pink or Black for $59.99. There is even a purple option out there, but not currently sold at Betty’s.
